The John Holland Co. of Cincinnati was another early high quality manufacturer of gold nibs and fountain pens, as well as some early lead holders. In the 1920s, the company also started producing mechanical pencils.

The earliest Holland mechanical pencils were Rex Manufacturing flattops (see the Rex page); all of the ones I have seen were in jade green, like the one shown on the left.
Later, Holland made the unique pencils shown here, that can be spotted easily by their large, rounded top pieces. These were very nice.
The example on the right is from near the end of the line, after management of the company had passed to Holland's heirs. By the end, the quality of Holland products was just awful.
